Bridge crane is a kind of crane equipment which is to cross above workshop, warehouse and stock ground to lift materials. It gets name for its two sides are on the big concrete column or metal frame and the shape like a bridge. The frame of bridge crane runs along the trackway which is placed on frame. Bridge building crane is drove by electric power and it usually is operated in driver room. But it has distant control as well. The lifting capacity can be 500t and span can be 60m. Common bridge crane on large lifting capacity is easy to install and adjust and its driving device usually adopts universal coupling. The operating organization of crane is composed of four initiative wheels and driven wheels. If the lifting capacity is large, adding wheels will reduce wheel load. When the wheel is over four, it must use balanced articulated frame so that the load of crane will be spread on every wheel.
 
The structure of beam crane is similar to bridge building crane. It lifting capacity, span and working speed are all low. The main beam of bridge frame is the simple section beam which is composed of l-shaped steel, other type steel and slab. It uses chain block and electric block with simple carriage as crane carriage and carriage will operate on the bottom flange of l-shaped steel. Bridge frame can run along the trackway of frame and also can run along the trackway which hangs on frame. This kind of crane is rail suspension crane.
 
In addition, there are metallurgical special bridge crane and anti-explosion bridge crane. Metallurgical special bridge crane can work by special skill in steel production. Its structure is similar to bridge building crane. But there is special working device on crane carriage. The working features on this kind of crane are that it can be used a lot, work in bad condition and has higher classification grade. There are mainly five kinds and they are ladle crane, socking pit craned, stripping crane, charging crane and forging crane. However, anti-explosion bridge crane mainly works in explosive gas. Its structure is similar to bridge building crane as well. This kind of crane adopts explosion prevention measure on motor and electrical part and metal part, which will guarantee the safety when using in anti-explosion condition. Anti-explosion bridge crane can be divided into coal mine explosion-proof bridge crane and factory explosion-proof bridge crane.
 
Bridge crane is the significant tool and equipment of mechanization and automation for modern industrial production and loading crane. Thus, bridge crane has widely used in indoor and outdoor industrial and mining establishments, steel chemicals, railways, harbors, wharfs and the places of turnover of physical distribution.
