Gantry crane manufacturers have designed different types of gantry cranes to meet different needs of consumers. Generally speaking, there are four types of gantry cranes: Common Gantry crane , Hydroelectric station gantry crane , Shipbuilding gantry crane and Container gantry crane.
 
Common Gantry crane is the most widely used gantry crane. It can help to convey all kinds of mass goods or bulk goods as long as their weight is less than 100 tons. And its span is between 4 and 35meters.
 
Hydroelectric station gantry crane is mainly used to swing, start and stop the sluice. Meanwhile, it also can be applied to installation. It is capable of lifting 80 tons to 500 tons, but its span is just between 8 and 16 meters and its lifting speed is 1 to 5 meters per minute. Therefore, it is not frequently used.
 
Shipbuilding gantry crane is designed to assemble the body of a ship. Usually, two shipbuilding gantry cranes are required to work together. It can lift 100 tons to 1500 tons, and its span is about 185 meters.
 
Container gantry crane is frequently used in container terminals. Container gantry crane can help pile or load containers, which can accelerate the turnover of container unloaders or other cranes. Compared with container straddle carrier, container gantry crane has larger span and height. Its lifting speed is 35 to 52 meters per minute and the largest span is about 60 meters. These characteristics help it better adapt to the transportation needs of the port.
 
Despite these advantages, it is necessary to pay attention to some dos and don'ts. First, keep the wire rope vertical while lifting goods. Second, make sure the goods lifted are securely fastened. Third, keep the speed steady while lifting goods. Forth, the distance between two gantry cranes working together on the same track should be more than 3 meters. Fifth, people are not allowed to stay or walk under the arm of a crane. Sixth, the work should be stopped immediately if the wind scale is over 6.
